The Spaces Between

i have spent lifetimes
standing in the rain
soaked to the bone, still trying
to catch inspiration
in my palms

and i have spent eras
at the top of a hill
with a glass jar extended
towards heaven,
attempting to capture lightning
in a bottle

and i have spent generations
with my ears pressed to the sky
searching for words
that ricochet like thunder

but all that i had to do was sit
silent by my window
watching my own stillness

all that i had to do was find
the language of the spaces
between now and eternity
