DISASSEMBLED

Thomas Childs

I lay in pieces
A jigsaw puzzle of
A human being
Fractured in mind
Pieces of a soul
Destroyed in character
A mockery of what was
It seems that there
Is nothing left
No spark showing
In my closed eyes –
And then they open
As I draw in breath
And scram silently
Then begin the
Slow process
Of knitting the
Disassembled pieces
Back together.
Of knitting together My heart
My soul
MYSELF
